But he is determined to make whatever time he gets for the Chiefs in the next few weeks count, particularly as making the Super Rugby playoffs is far from certain for the back‑to‑back champions.
The Chiefs find themselves bottom of the New Zealand conference and ninth overall after suffering a third successive loss.
They need to win against the Hurricanes to give themselves a chance of reaching the Super Rugby playoffs.
The Chiefs will take on the Hurricanes at 7.35pm Friday.
