The Chiefs ended the Hurricanes’ slim Super Rugby playoff hopes with a 34-22 victory in Hamilton.

The Chiefs led 17-15 at halftime, the champions scoring four tries to the Hurricanes’ three, while the hosts’ All Black pivot Aaron Cruden kicked 14 points with the boot, missing just once.

The win elevates the Chiefs to the top of the overall table for now, as well as boosting their chances of a home semifinal and they now only need one more point to win the local conference.

At 7.35 tonight the Crusaders meet the Highlanders.
