The Chiefs went to the top of the Super Rugby standings after they beat the Hurricanes 17-12 in Wellington last night.

The result provisionally moved the Chiefs to the top of the Super Rugby standings but they could be overtaken by the Brumbies tonight if they beat the Waratahs in Sydney.

Regardless of what happens in Sydney, the Chiefs will remain the leaders of the New Zealand Super Rugby conference for the week as they now have a seven point lead on the Blues.

Aaron Cruden kicked four goals from five attempts and Tanerau Latimer scored the only try of the game in the 54th minute.

Yesterday’s win was the Chiefs’ first in Wellington since 2001.

Meanwhile, the Rebels secured their first ever victory over a South African team when they beat the Stormers 30-21 while the Sharks ended a five match losing streak when they beat the Western Force 23-13 last night.

In tonight’s clashes, the Crusaders will host the Chiefs at 7.35pm while the Brumbies will host the Waratahs at 9.40pm.
