Assistant Chiefs coach Wayne Smith figures the Chiefs need nine points from their final two games in order to have a shot at making the Super Rugby playoffs.
If the Chiefs can beat the Hurricanes they stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, even though they know they are also at the mercy of other results, but a loss will end all hope.
The Hurricanes will play the Chiefs at 7.35pm this Friday.
On Saturday, the Lions play the Rebels at 5.10am, the Crusaders take on the Blues at 7.35pm while the Reds play the Force at 9.40pm.
