The Chiefs handed the Crusaders their second consecutive defeat at home beating them 26‑9 in Christchurch last night.
It was a messy start by both sides, however it was the Chiefs that attempted to make the most of their opportunities.
Chiefs try scorers Michael Leitch, James Lowe and Liam Squire have now shot to the top of the table while the Crusaders who were left try‑less have been left with a four‑five record at the midpoint of their season.
The Crusaders must now embark on a long unbeaten streak to charge back into finals contention.
Today the Hurricanes will meet the Waratahs at 4.30pm, Highlanders play the Blues at 7.35pm, Brumbies meet the Rebels at 9.40pm while the Force play the Stormers at 11.45pm.
