The Traditional way of reconciling and not taking the matter to the court will be a thing of the past in places like Cakaudrove and Bua.
The Project Officer of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre's Vanualevu Branch, Sera Bogitini said that after the continuous workshops in these areas with the Pastors, Chiefs, Youth Leaders and some police officers, strategies have been made by these people to see that rape and assault victims do not suffer anymore.
She said she was told after the workshops by these people that they will now assist the victims and their families and while traditional reconciliation may take place, the chiefs will not let the matter rest there.
The next workshop to teach the villagers about providing safety to their community and reducing violence against women and children will be held in November in Cakaudrove.
