The new Chief Registrar of the High Court Ana Rokomokoti has stressed that court documents are not being shredded.

The suggestion that the Chief Registrar has been shredding documents was made by the president of the Fiji Law Society Dorsami Naidu to the international media yesterday.

Rokomokoti said that under the Administration of Justice Decree 2009, certain court proceedings named in the decree that had been filed in court are being discontinued and certificates stating such are being sent to all affected litigants.

Rokomokoti added that those files are then withdrawn from the active file list and archived.

She said they are not being shredded and there is absolutely no intention of destroying any court documents.

Permanent Secretary for Justice Pio Tikoduadua also confirmed that no court documents had been or would be destroyed.

Tikoduadua said he is surprised that the individual concerned is spreading rumors and even more astounded that the international media is taking him at his word.
