With chicken prices expected to increase from today, Public Enterprises and Trade Minister, Aiyaz Saiyad Khaiyum said they have been assured by the suppliers of local chicken that there are enough supplies to meet the demand in Fiji.
His comment comes after the Consumer Council of Fiji conducted a survey and found that there is a shortage of chicken in the supermarkets since the decision made by government to remove price control from local chicken.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Saiyad Khaiyum said there should not be a shortage of local chicken in the market.
Saiyad Khaiyum said the price control changes that they have made in the wholesale area provides enormous opportunities for people to become self sufficient.
He also said while we may have to pay more, there is a need to look at overall impact of the changes.
