Interim Minister for Finance and Sugar Industry, Mahendra Chaudhry has accused the Chairman of Transparency International, Hari Pal Singh of lying to the public to discredit him and the interim administration.

Chaudhry is responding to reports in one of the dailies today in which Singh accused him of drawing salary from the National Farmers Union and also as a minister in the interim government.

Chaudhry said Singh has without ascertaining the truth publicly accused him of commiting an act of corruption by drawing two salaries.

According to Chaudhry, the fact is that he never drew salary or any other remuneration as general secretary of NFU since his appointment to that position in 1978.

He said the daily newspaper is equally responsible by publishing Singh's lies without ascertaining the facts for itself.

Chaudhry added that he has instructed his lawyers to begin legal proceedings in the matter.
