Former Prime Minister and Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry remains in the custody of Rakiraki police this afternoon after being taken into custody with five others yesterday afternoon.

His son and legal counsel Rajendra Chaudhry confirmed that police have finished interviewing Mahendra Chaudhary however he is still being kept in custody.

Police are currently questioning the other five men and no charges have been laid as yet.

Rajendra Chaudhry who is also at the Rakiraki Police station also confirmed earlier today that his father was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon when he reported to be sick.

He said Chaudhry was then brought back to the station after receiving medical attention.

Assistant Police Spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed to Fijivillage that Chaudhry and the five others were taken into custody yesterday afternoon for allegedly breaching the Public Emergency regulation.

It is alleged that Chaudhry and the five others held meetings in breach of the conditions of the PER.
