Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry confirms that needs of the Nadi Weather Office will be given priority to ensure it can upgrade and install the weather radars as son as possible.
Speaking to Village FM news, Chaudhry said they have received a request from the Department and he has assured them that the necessary funds will be allocated in the 2008 budget.
It was earlier revealed that the Nadi Weather Officer is unable to provide accurate weather information for the Central/Eastern and Northern Divisions.
Weather Office Director, Rajendra Prasad, said they are facing major difficulties in monitoring weather patterns correctly, as the radar in Nausori is currently under repair while the Northern Division remains without a radar system due to a land dispute.
Prasad had earlier revealed to Village FM News that 50 percent of forecasters have migrated and they are also facing a shortage of manpower heading into the cyclone season.
