The Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry met the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo today accompanied by Lekhram Vayeshnoi and Tom Rickets to officially inform him of their decision to resign from the interim government.

Chaudhry said he advised the President of the need for Fiji to move swiftly ahead to restore parliamentary democracy now that the Draft People's Charter has been released for public scrutiny.

Chaudhry also suggested to Ratu Josefa Iloilo that his party believes that electoral reforms are necessary for Fiji to enjoy national unity and lasting peace and prosperity.

He also commended the President's initiative to seek assistance from the Commonwealth Secretariat to begin political dialogue of electoral reforms and suggested that the discussions be expedited so that all obstacles to holding elections can be speedily overcome.

Chaudhry said the President thanked him and his other two colleagues for discharging their duties diligently and assured him that his doors will always be open for discussions on Fiji's future and the betterment of Fiji's people.
