The Interim Finance Minister has commended the recent work of the University of the South Pacific Council to find ways of improving the financial status of the institution.
Speaking at the Regional Finance Ministers Meeting at USP last night, he said that the regional institution was living beyond its means and something had to be done.
When questioned about the 3 million dollars loss in USP's commercial ventures Chaudhry had this to say.
He added that action is being taken to identify those behind the loss and it will be reported to the university council when it meets later in October.
They group has also welcomed an initiative of the USP Council to appoint a committee to make proposals on the reduction of the USP budget deficits and to strengthen controls over expenditure and its finances to deliver a balanced budget by 2010.
A review of the financial situation will be carried out in twelve months.
