Chaudhry A Downward Spiral
After Chaudhry'S call to disband FICAC, in a statement this afternoon FICAC said it is mandated to fight corruption and appeals to the people of Fiji not to be overwhelmed with emotions in targeting individuals but rather support FICAC in its genuine efforts in wiping out corruption.
FICAC said Chaudhry's comments are not only arrogant in nature, but are also questionable as it was only last year that he was full of praises for the very institution that he is now trying to ridicule.
They say it was expected that Chaudhry was going to launch a media circus to try and justify why FICAC should be scrapped, however FICAC reiterates that their operations in regards to investigations and court cases will continue.
FICAC also said that it has received over 3000 complaints in 14 months and illustrates the growing confidence that people have in FICAC and it is not up to any individual to deem FICAC incompetent and useless.
Earlier today Suva Lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry called on the authorities to scrap the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption and to replace it with a special unit in the Police Force.
Chaudhry said given the inexperience and untrained investigators currently with FICAC it is better that the institution be scrapped and a special major Fraud and Corruption investigation team be formed in the police force.
