Former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry and five others charged with one count of unlawful assembly under the Public Emergency Regulation, pleaded not guilty in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court this morning.

They appeared before Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili after Tavua Magistrate Sadiq Faizal Koya recused himself on Monday saying he knows Chaudhry well.

Magistrate Ratuvili ordered Chaudhry, Sanjeet Maharaj, Ganga Dharan, Gajraj Singh, Abhay Raj Singh and Shammi Kapoor to report to their nearest Police station every Wednesday between 6am and 6pm.

The accused were represented by Rajendra Chaudhry and Regional Prosecuting Officer Western, ASP Anil Prasad represented the State.

The case has been adjourned to 11th November.

It is alleged that last Friday in Vunikavikaloa, Chaudhry and the five others were having a meeting without a permit.
