Charter Will Not Undermine Elections
Interim Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau while talking on the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) at the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) meeting in Vanuatu told the leaders that President Ratu Josefa Iloilo has directed that the People's Charter be handed to him by 10th October this year.
He said 10th October is a deadline that is well before the first quarter of 2009, the timeline for the holding of elections.
Ratu Epeli explained in the summit the task the National Council for Building a Better Fiji has taken and the People's Charter saying that a forum in collaboration with the NCBBF will be held soon and Fiji's Pacific forum development partners may be invited to join in the discussion. The forum will discuss steps needed to reform Fiji's electoral system.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama is also accompanying Ratu Epeli and they will be back in the country tomorrow.
