Charter Good For Tourism-Hotel Boss
Sir Clifford Skeggs, the founder of Skeggs Group and current proprietor of Port Denarau, said that through his business life, he has never encountered a clear divide amongst the people in the country and a lot of bureaucracy in land dealings.
Skeggs said that the divide has seen major developments by Denarau halted or even stalled, adding that these projects would see more employment opportunities for many in the villages.
Speaking at the Joint Fiji-New Zealand Business Conference on the ups and downs encountered during setting up projects in Fiji, Skeggs said that at times it takes years for a simple development program to be approved.
He added that he sees no reason why the New Zealand Government is not backing the Charter.
However, Acting New Zealand High Commissioner Caroline MacDonald reiterates that the New Zealand Government stands by their decision saying change is good, but only when it's done in a legal way.
