While your intentions are good, you are not the right people to carry out the changes.
These are the sentiments of Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Director, Angie Heffernan who said that changes to Fiji's Electoral Voting System can only be carried out within the provisions of Fiji's constitution.
Heffernan adds that anything else is unconstitutional and will face the acid test of the courts.
Like, USP Academic and Political Scientist Dr Ratuva, Heffernan believes that changing the voting system does not mean people will vote along non-racial lines and adds that the opposite could take place, whereby Fijians who have had their elected government removed by the military, would most likely vote for an indigenous party back into power.
She also adds that preventing certain groups of people from contesting the elections is unconstitutional and this will not lead to medium to long term national stability in Fiji.
