The former Matron for Pearce Home has opened up her home and turned it in to a shelter for the needy and destitute.
Emily Chang, who has spent the last fifty years of her life opening her doors to the needy, said it all started in Savusavu when she felt sorry for some stray cats and then started helping people who were abandoned by their families.
At the moment, Chang who resides in Suva is putting together paper work and awaiting a permit with regards to her shelter.
Chang said life has its ups and downs but we should never give up helping others.
Meanwhile, the Rotaract Club of Suva is carrying out a fundraising so that they can furnish Chang's house that is expected to house over 14 people.
