Fiji Institute of Technology director Dr Ganesh Chand is the new interim Vice Chancellor of the Fiji National University.

He is also the chairman of the interim FNU Council.

The Fiji National University sees the merging of the Fiji School of Agriculture, Fiji College of Advanced Education, Lautoka Teachers College, Fiji School of Nursing, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji Institute of Technology.

The University Decree has been gazetted and Education Minister Filipe Bole held a meeting with the stakeholders presenting an overview of the progress in the establishment of the university.

He also expressed his views on what he considered to be necessary steps in the merger of the six colleges.

Bole is confident that the university will commence in January next year as decided by cabinet.

The new university will be based at the Fiji College of Advanced Education at Nasinu and Chand will be heading a management team which will look after the administrative and management functions of FNU.
