The cause of the fire on the Sinuwasa III inter island ferry has been determined by the National Fire Authority.

In a statement released the NFA said it appears that the fire was started by a worker with a blow torch conducting rust prevention works.

There is no evidence to suggest any other cause of fire.

Additional fire officers arrived in Levuka this morning to help remove the water that had accumulated in the hull during firefighting operations.

The NFA say that fire officers are expected to maintain a watch over the ship for the next few days to ensure all hot spots have been extinguished.

Chief Fire Officer, Mark Reid said that he is thankful to the NFA staff, volunteers, authorities and businesses in Levuka, who worked very hard over long hours to achieve a successful operation.

Reid hopes to travel to Levuka tomorrow to personally thank those who helped in the operation.
