Fiji rugby star Rupeni Caucau has expressed interest in playing in Australia and is negotiating with the Brumbies for next season's Super 15.

Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan confirmed the ACT side is interested in Caucau.

Fagan told The Australian that they had discussions with Caucau's representative during the week after they were informed he was keen to play in Super rugby in the lead up to the World Cup.

Fagan said Caucau knows the Brumbies are on the lookout for outside backs and they will have a chat before Caucau leaves Australia.

One of the most freakish talents in world rugby, Caucau has been playing in France since leaving the Auckland based Blues at the end of the 2003 Super rugby season.

Asked in Canberra yesterday whether Caucau would be interested in playing in Australia, Fiji head coach Sam Domoni spoke on the shy player's behalf.

Domoni said talks are already under way.

Domoni said Caucau does not have any preference as long as it is Australia because it is closer to Fiji than France.

Fiji takes on the Wallabies at 9:40pm tomorrow in Canberra.
