A former resident and a top heart surgeon in Gold Coast Australia, Dr. Vijay Kapadia assisted in the search for a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (Cath Lab) Cath Lab for CWM hospital which was launched today.
Dr. Kapadia, a former Marist Brothers student who was brought up and studied in Suva in the early 1970s, said he will continue to assist in improving health facilities in the country.
He adds this machine which was brought in free of charge is a relief to heart patients, especially since the poor will be treated free.
He said people should live a healthy life to prevent themselves from getting heart disease.
Dr. Kapadia adds a new Cath Lab machine costs around $2 million
and its services in New Zealand, Australia and India costs $7,000 to $15,000.
The Cath Lab machine was brought in the country with assistance of Rotary Club of Australia and Fiji which was supplied by Johnson and Johnson Metronic Australia. People who can afford its services will be charged a fee not exceeding $1500.
Health Minister, Dr. Neil Sharma today officially opened the Cath Lab at the CWM Hospital.
