Penalty clauses in the casino licence between proposed casino developers, One Hundred Sands Limited and the government will kick in from 1st October this year if the casino is not completed.

One Hundred Sands Limited has to pay the government USD$100,000 per month from 1st October 2013 until the casino is completed.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that construction work is yet to start although One Hundred Sands Limited has announced that it has secured another location for the proposed $290 million casino and convention centre.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has told Fijivillage that the penalty will start from 1st October as stipulated in the licence.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the government has been assured that construction will commence at the new location in Nadi by early next week.

Based on this, the deadline for the developers has been extended by a week.

Fijivillage asked the Attorney General if One Hundred Sands has secured the new site and if he can reveal the new site of the proposed casino project.

He said the government has been assured that the land has been secured and we just have to wait and see what happens next week.
