Cases in the Magistrates courts are piling up with individual Magistrates having to deal with a huge workload.

This was made evident today by Suva Magistrate Court Mary Muir who stated that she has 66 cases to deal with today.

Magistrate Muir also told a lawyer in another case that her court is fully booked out and cases have to be adjourned for a longer period stressing that there are just not enough magistrates to deal with a large number of cases before the courts.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Muir also scolded a man who tried to represent a lawyer who was not in court.

She stressed that such bush lawyer tactics will not be entertained when the man admitted that he is not a lawyer. He was asked to sit down in the gallery.

Magistrate Muir said too many bush lawyers are creating problems for the courts.
