In efforts to ensure there is not a backlog of cases in the High Court and to save travelling costs for several cases from Lautoka, cases are being dealt with via video links in Suva.

As there is no Criminal High Court Judge assigned specifically to the Lautoka High Court, Judge Justice Daniel Gounder is required to travel to Lautoka to deal with the cases.

However, the registry has found a solution to ensure cases do not pile up and Judge Gounder is dealing with the cases via Closed Circuit television links to Lautoka High Court and handing down judgments and sentences in pending cases.

Court Officials say cases from the North may also be dealt with in a similar manner until such time when adequate number of Judges is appointed by the President.
