The case regarding former resident magistrate for the Nausori Magistrates Court, Sunil Kumar has been adjourned until this afternoon as FICAC has sought a change in the counts against Kumar.

Kumar is charged by FICAC with five counts of allegedly preventing Police to carry out their duties and therefore prevent the course of Justice.

It is alleged that Kumar between May and October of 2007, on several occasions ordered Police Officers to stop booking traffic offenders.

FICAC lawyer, Madhawa Tennakoon informed High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar that they would be withdrawing one of the counts against Kumar as they did not have supporting evidence and only the statement from two court clerks.

There was no objection from defense with FICAC given until this afternoon to file the amended charges.

The trial is set to begin on the 28th of July.
