Dan Carter is on his way to Auckland from Wellington after a nightmare weekend which saw the end of his World Cup.

The All Blacks play maker had a groin injury during a kicking drill on Saturday.

Carter and the rest of the All Black squad were at Wellington Airport today as they fly up to Auckland to prepare for this weekend's quarter final against Argentina.

Carter emerged on crutches and signed autographs and took photos with fans and well-wishers.

He will front a news conference in Auckland this afternoon, the first time he will speak publicly since the injury.

In the quarterfinal, Ireland will play Wales in Wellington on Saturday at 5pm.

France will play England at Eden Park on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Australia will play South Africa in Wellington on Sunday at 5pm and the All Blacks will face Argentina at Eden Park on Sunday night at 7.30pm.
