Dan Carter has been ruled out of rugby for 3-4 weeks with a calf strain and will miss Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup opener in Sydney.

The star All Blacks’ first five-eighth pulled up tight after last Friday’s training.

He warmed up for training yesterday in Wellington but his left calf again felt tight and he left for scans which revealed the injury.

Aaron Cruden will now start in the No 10 jersey against Australia, with Beauden Barrett coming onto the bench as cover.

Carter will also miss the All Blacks’ first home Rugby Championship test against the Wallabies in Wellington on the 24th of this month.

The 31-year-old could then return for the test against Argentina in Hamilton on September 7th.

The Wallabies will host the All Blacks at 10pm this Saturday for the first Rugby Championship match while the Springboks play Argentina at 3am Sunday.
