Just as there was good news for the Crusaders, a hamstring strain has forced star playmaker Dan Carter out of the match against the Western Force.

Tyler Bleyendaal will start at first five-eighth for the third successive week.

Last night the Crusaders confirmed that Carter, who missed their tour matches against the Stormers and Sharks because of paternity leave, was being sent back to Christchurch to rehabilitate the injury.

Coach Todd Blackadder is now expected to call for a backup first-five in case Bleyendaal suffers a mishap in training.

The Crusaders meet the Force at 11.45pm this Saturday.

At 7.35 on Friday night the Highlanders meet the Brumbies.
