An unexpected Dan Carter drop goal has helped keep the All Blacks' Rugby World Cup title hopes alive after they beat South Africa 20‑18 in the semifinal at Twickenham this morning.
First five‑eighth Carter also kicked two penalties and a conversion, but it was his thunderous left‑footed drop goal in the 46th minute that proved crucial as the All Blacks qualified for the final, against either Australia or Argentina, next weekend.
The All Blacks scored both of the semi‑final tries, through flanker Jerome Kaino in the sixth minute and reserve Beauden Barrett in the 52nd minute.
The All Blacks had trailed 12‑7 at halftime.
Meanwhile in the second semifinal, the Wallabies will play the Pumas at 3am tomorrow.
