Stand-in All Blacks captain Dan Carter suffered a groin injury at the captain’s run training session in Wellington today and has been withdrawn from the match against Canada.
He was due to lead the side for the first time after Richie McCaw was forced out with his ongoing foot problems.
Colin Slade will now start in the number 10 jersey, with hooker Andrew Hore to captain the All Blacks for the first time.
Andy Ellis comes onto the reserves bench, with Piri Weepu to cover first five eighth.
New Zealand will meet Canada tomorrow at 2.30pm.
