The gamble is close to paying off for Jerome Kaino.
The World Cup winning All Black is closing in on a return to the national team after a standout Super Rugby showing with the Blues, just four months since returning from two years in Japan.
Kaino said he took a risk leaving for Japan in the first place, let alone coming back and trying to regain his place.
The All Blacks squad for the series against England will be on named on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kaino and his Blues side will play the Hurricanes at 7:35pm Saturday.
