A driver is today counting his lucky stars after he escaped injuries when the seven tonne truck that he was driving tumbled on its side in Lautoka this morning.
Lautoka resident, Goundar who was on his way to work told Fijivillage that the seven tonne truck was fully loaded with cane and is believed that the driver was headed towards the Lautoka Sugar mill when it went into the drain.
Meanwhile, the highway patrol is conducting an operation aimed at those who violate safety rules on the roads within the Suva and Nausori area.
During this weekend the highway patrol will continue its joint operation together with Ready Action Unit and Land transport Authority monitoring all the movements of the vehicles and criminals.
Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra said patrol teams will also conduct searches on suspected drivers, passengers and pedestrians which may we believe to be involved in criminal activities or believe to be in possession of dangerous drugs or vehicle believed to be stolen.
SSP Mishra added the highway patrol will also conduct breathalyzer operations in the areas of operation and all the arrested suspects will be escorted to respective police stations where necessary actions will be taken against them moreover highway patrol will operate radar guns on queen's highway and will book all the drivers who may over speed their vehicles.
