The Sugar Research Institute of Fiji is investigating the cause of why some shoots from cane ratoons are dying in the Nadi area, especially since it has been established that it is not due to dry weather conditions.

These ratoons which are affected is for cane to be harvested for the 2011 cane crushing season.

Chief Executive Officer Jaishree Goundar confirmed to Fijivillage news that they are trying to establish why some of the shoots are dying after complaints by cane farmers in the area that some shoots from ratoons are dying off.

Goundar said tests are being carried out to determine the cause adding further information will be released once the cause the established by the Institute.
