The Sugarcane Growers Council has called on the government to consider the plight of the sugarcane farmers in their 2010 national budget next month and provide much needed assistance as the European Union has stopped all assistance to the industry.
Chairman Jain Kumar said cane farmers are finding difficulty in preparing for the next season and they need assistance from the government.
The EU has held the $350 million assistance for Fiji's sugar industry as they want a quick return to democratic rule.
