A 56-year-old lorry driver of Rakiraki died after a truck trailer loaded with more than 10 tonnes of cane fell on him.

Rakiraki police have confirmed that Mohammad Sharif was trying to change the tyre of the trailer with the help of some other people when the jack slipped.

All other people who were helping him managed to ran away while Shariff was trapped under the trailer and the cane.

He died instantly. His body has been taken to the Lautoka hospital for a post mortem later today.

Police are calling on drivers to take extra precaution while trying to change tyres especially if it’s loaded with cane.
