Labasa cane farmers are expected to meet the Commissioner Northern today to urge the interim government to provide rations to cane farmers as the Labasa sugar mill continues to breakdown.
President of NFU Bulivou sector Seaqaqa Mohammed Tahir said cane farmers have used up all their groceries as they provide three meals per day for cane cutters who have been hired from the outer islands and rural areas of Vanua Levu.
Tahir added lorry drivers also have to line up outside the mills for more than three days after disruptions in the mill.
He had called on the interim government to intervene and resolve the matter and said if the trend continues, cane cutters may have to stop all harvesting.
The Commissioner Northern is expected to comment later today.
