A 49 year old cane cutter of Labasa who allegedly raped his 70 year old mother last month has again been remanded in custody by the Labasa magistrates court this morning.

His lawyer from Legal Aid Commission told Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka that his client is willing to plead guilty and needs time to prepare for disclosures.

Police prosecutor Dharmendra Kumar told court that the accused allegedly assaulted his elderly mother on 25th August before raping her.

Magistrate Tuilevuka ordered the accused to be remanded in custody as the charges against him are serious and he has breached his family's trust.

He also said that if the accused is released, his safety will be at stake and he could interfere with prosecution witnesses.

He will reappear in the Labasa Magistrates Court on the 24th of this month where his plea will be taken.
