A Council of Sugar Cane Growers is expected to be established soon to look into the running of the sugar cane growers.

This is after Cabinet approved the submission made by the Sugar Industry Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

Bainimarama said the council will take steps which it considers necessary for the development of the industry and will provide assistance to registered growers.

Bainimarama also said the council will promote good relations between all stakeholders and will oversee the operations of district offices in the council.

The council will consist of 11 members including eight from the growers and three from the government.

The Board will be appointed by the Sugar Minister and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
