The Fiji Sugarcane Growers Council has welcomed the move by Trade Ministers from around the African-Caribbean and Pacific countries to finalize trade talks to open up the European Market.

The ministers who will be meeting in Nadi this week will be discussing the progress in trade discussions with the European Union as the deadline had been extended to the end of the year before the EAP comes into effect.

Chairman of the council Jain Kumar said that once talks have been finalized between the ACP countries and the EU, under this agreement the sugarcane farmers would have been a new lease to life.
