A fire at a Hart flat in Nasinu last night is believed to have started from a lit candle.

National Fire Authority’s Corporate Affairs Manager Mileta Ting said that the candle was left burning in the first flat owned by Joji Naliva while they were out.

Ting said firefighters managed to put out the fire before it could spread to a second adjourning flat occupied by a mother and her son, who were asleep at the time of the incident however managed to get out of the house unhurt.

Meanwhile Police and the National Fire Authority are investigating another case where a 6 bedroom house belonging to a 44 year old farmer of Votualevu, Nadi, was completely destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon.

The house was vacant at the time of the incident and estimated damage is around $100,000.

Investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire.
