“When someone in the family has cancer, it does not only affect that person, but everyone connected to them.”
That is the sentiment of Marist Brothers High School Head Boy Jone Veisamasama whose 7-year-old niece has cancer.
Jone Veisamasama said for them as a family all they can do is support the girl and try their best to make sure she does not feel lonely.
This has also prompted the form 7 student to help the Walk On Walk Strong campaign to raise money for children living with cancer.
He has also been joined by four fellow students.
According to Veisamasama the reason why his friends have joined is to help other students and they have also challenged other students to be part of this worthy cause.
He said they will also be raising money this Friday and whatever they raise will go towards the Walk On Walk Strong Campaign.
“I am where I am today because of the support of my family and the memory of my mother that motivates me”.
Those are the words of Brumbies wing Henry Speight who in 1996 lost his mother, Adi Litia Iloilo Speight to cervical cancer.
Speaking to Fijivillage from Canberra, Speight said cancer is very personal for him and his family, and that when he was seven he had no idea about the sickness his mother had, but only the image of his mother getting frail and weak.
Having had his hair shaved last Friday for the Walk on Walk Strong campaign in Canberra with other Brumbies teammates, Speight said so far he has raised more than 2000 Australian dollars and will continue to raise money until this Saturday.
A Brumbies jersey and ball signed by the Brumbies will be auctioned this Saturday to raise money for cancer with all proceeds going to the appeal.
40-45 children are diagnosed with cancer in Fiji every year.
A nationwide appeal will be held in Fiji this Saturday.
The WOWS Walk will take place from the Vodafone Arena to Suva Grammar and back to the arena at 7am Saturday.
If you want to make donations, the Westpac Suva CFL appeal account number is 9800 935 794.
You can also drop by at the home of Fijivillage here at 231 Waimanu Road between now and this Saturday to make your donations.
The CFL family from Legend FM, FM96, Viti FM, Navtarang and Radio Sargam will be based at locations nationwide this Saturday collecting funds for children living with cancer.
