The Fiji Cancer Society is not in a position to build a hospice for cancer patients as it will cost millions for it to be built and the operations are also expensive.
Chairman, Joe Singh confirms the society has so far collected $176,000, however this amount is not enough to meet the cost of building a hospice.
Singh adds they are now aiming for something more achievable, more widespread and in line with the Fijian culture which will be home based hospice care.
With an average of 450 new cases, 460 people die each year due to cancer.
