The Ministry of Health has stressed that people in the affected typhoid areas of Navosa should cancel all public gatherings to avoid the spread of the disease.

This comes after a state of public emergency was declared in Navosa by the Health Ministry after over 100 cases of typhoid have been reported in the area.

World Health Organisations’s Epidemologist Jennie Musto said that typhoid is spread by bacteria and is usually transmitted through eating contaminated food or drinks prepared by someone who is sick.

Musto added that typhoid can be very serious and can cause death.
