The All Blacks 7s team faces a major setback ahead of the USA 7s as star playmaker Tomasi Cama Junior has been ruled out because of an injury.

Coach Gordon Tietjens named his squad for the USA Sevens in Las Vegas, with Cama a noticeable absentee.

Cama suffered a calf injury during training and Tietjens is confident that he has able replacements that can fill in the vacuum left by the nippy playmaker.

DJ Forbes will once again captain the side with Tietjens naming a core of his side from the opening leg of the IRB 7s series.

The All Blacks Sevens, who lead the Series standings after the first three rounds, have not won in Las Vegas in the four years at the Sam Boyd Stadium.

New Zealand begin their campaign against Australia, the side they beat to win the opening round of the Series on the Gold Coast, before facing matches against Scotland and the Dubai Sevens champions Fiji.

The USA 7s kicks off next Saturday.

Fiji takes on Scotland at 1.06pm next Saturday in its first pool match.
