The National Council for Building a Better Fiji is yet to confirm whether five overseas consultants hired to assist in the formulation of the People's Charter receive between $90-190,000.
Reports are emerging that these five consultants' salaries are part of the 2.4 million dollars budgeted for the work of the National council this year.
The co-Chairs meet with Head of the Technical Support Secretariat of the National Council, John Samy today.
Meanwhile, member of the National Council and a Co-Chair of a Working Group in the NCBBF, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo says people should look at the bigger picture rather than concentrating on how much tax dollars is spent on the salaries.
Nawalowalo said the aim should now be to get the Charter Process on track and questions being raised about transparency in relation to the Charter process are short sighted.
A move that the Provincial Youth Forum has come out in support of saying the Government has the right to use tax payers money in any way they see appropriate.
Rupeni Silimaibau, project manager for the Provincial Youth Forum and member of the national council said with the amount of work they were carrying out, their pay is included in their work description.
Meanhile, a member for the National Council for Building a Better Fiji and Nasinu Mayor, Rajeshwar Kumar said he was unaware that overseas consultants hired to assist in the formulation of the People's Charter were receiving large sums of money as salary.
Kumar added that the media has highlighted a lot about their pay however they should also think about the future of Fiji after the formation of the Charter.
However, ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase says since taxpayers funds are involved, the National Council should reveal how the money is being spent.
