Secretariat of the Pacific Community's Regional Rights Resource Team is calling for the establishment of one Regional Human Rights Body to serve Pacific Island countries.

This is what Gender and Human Rights Advisor Imrana Jalal included in her submission to the Australian Parliament's Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, which is holding an "Inquiry into Human Rights Mechanisms and the Asia-Pacific".

Jalal said this body in time, could become a commission and could be used to help prevent and redress human rights violations in the Asia-Pacific region adding the Pacific people should lead the way, not Australia and New Zealand.
