Calling of Sunday trade ban is unchristian-Reverend Koroi
Reverend Koroi said you cannot force a person to follow the Christian faith and go to church on Sundays as that is a personal choice.
The Methodist Church of Fiji has resolved to request all town and city councils around the country to ensure that no business is permitted to open on Sunday and any other day significant on the Christian calendar.
Members of the church attending the conference in Naduri, Macuata endorsed that Divisional Superintendents will now write to the town and city councils to respect the Sabbath by banning Sunday trading, including all major sales on Sundays.
The Church will also request that no trading be allowed on other Christian holidays, like Easter and Christmas.
Meanwhile Interim Health Minister, Doctor Jona Senilagakali who is a Methodist lay preacher and a former church working committee member, said the Methodist Church should re-examine how it is conducting the affairs of the church in the country.
As the church Divisional Superintendents are expected to write to the town and city councils to ban all Sunday trading, Suva Lord Mayor, Ratu Peni Volavola and newly appointed Vice President of the Methodist Church, said he personally believes that this step should be taken.
Ratu Peni said more discussions with the council will be conducted. Stay with us we will have more on this issue later today.
