“If you are not receiving water through water carting trucks, call the Water Authority of Fiji and if they are not picking up the phone, call me on 9905303 and I’ll make sure water comes to you.”

These were the comments of the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Pio Tikoduadua while replying to a question from SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavu who said in Parliament today that he suspects that there would be some dealings taking place where water carting drivers are favouring some areas in Lami and Delainavesi.

Tikoduadua said if people believe there have been cases where some are exploiting the situation, then it should be reported with evidence.

Bulitavu asked Tikoduadua to give an assurance whether these drivers will be monitored and whether people can be assured that they will get water without having preference of the others.

He asked if the truck drivers can be routinely checked on the distribution of water.

Meanwhile, another SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka raised in Parliament today that he sees this situation as a national emergency.

Tikoduadua said that it is a national issue and they want to do something about it.

Parliament has been adjourned to 2.30 this afternoon.
